β‘ Storm Damage & Insurance Claims
Hail damage isn't always obvious from the ground. Signs include: dents or bruising on shingles (which appear as dark spots or soft spots), granule loss that looks like bare patches, dented gutters and downspouts, and damaged or cracked window screens. We offer a free inspection that will document any and all damage thoroughly. It's always worth having a professional look, especially after any storm larger than Β½ inch hail.
Most standard homeowner's insurance policies cover sudden, accidental storm damage from hail, wind, and lightning. Coverage depends on your specific policy, deductible, and the cause of damage. Damage from neglect or normal wear-and-tear is typically not covered. We help you navigate the process: our team will document the damage, help you file your claim, and meet with your adjuster to ensure you receive the full entitlement your policy provides.
Most insurance policies require you to file your claim within 1 year of the storm event, though this can vary by insurer. Some companies have shorter windows. We strongly recommend calling us within a few weeks of a storm β the sooner we document the damage, the stronger your claim. Don't delay: the longer you wait, the harder it becomes to prove damage was storm-related vs. pre-existing.
If your insurance claim is approved, you typically only pay your deductible. The insurance company covers the rest of the approved scope of work. Note: It is illegal in Minnesota for contractors to waive or absorb your deductible β be cautious of companies that offer to do this, as it can constitute insurance fraud. Dwell One Roofing always operates with full transparency and within the law.
Don't give up. Insurance companies can and do make mistakes. If your claim is denied, you have the right to request a re-inspection and to hire a public adjuster to review the decision. Our team has extensive experience helping homeowners appeal denied or underpaid claims. We'll help you understand the denial reason and explore your options. A second opinion is always worth pursuing.
π Roofing Questions
Most standard residential roof replacements in Minnesota are completed in 1-2 days. Larger homes or complex rooflines (steep pitch, multiple peaks, chimneys, skylights) may take 2-3 days. We work efficiently and clean up daily so disruption to your household is minimal. We'll give you a specific timeline during your estimate.
Roof replacement costs in Minnesota typically range from $8,000 to $20,000+ for most residential homes, depending on roof size, pitch, material choice, and complexity. Asphalt shingles are the most affordable option; metal roofing and premium products cost more but last significantly longer. We provide detailed, written estimates at no charge. Get in touch for an accurate quote specific to your home.
Yes. Dwell One Roofing installs roofs year-round in Minnesota. Modern asphalt shingles can be installed at temperatures down to about 40Β°F with proper technique and adhesive. In colder weather, we take extra precautions with hand-sealing and installation methods. Emergency repairs in winter are always available. For full replacements in extreme cold, we may recommend waiting for a mild window β we'll advise you honestly.
Your new roof comes with two warranties: (1) Manufacturer warranty on materials β typically 30-50 years depending on the product; (2) Dwell One Roofing 10-year workmanship warranty covering any defects related to our installation. We are factory-certified by GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed, which means we can offer enhanced manufacturer warranties that non-certified contractors cannot.
You don't need to be home during the work, but we do ask that you or a representative be present at the start and for the final walkthrough at completion. We'll communicate with you throughout the day and send photos of any important findings. Our crews are fully vetted, background-checked, and will treat your property with respect.
πͺ΅ Siding Questions
For Minnesota's climate, we recommend Insulated Vinyl Siding (best value for cold weather), James Hardie Fiber Cement (premium look, doesn't expand/contract much in cold), or LP SmartSide Engineered Wood (natural look with superior cold weather performance). All three are proven performers in Northern climate zones and come with excellent warranties. We'll help you compare options based on your budget and aesthetic goals.
Most full-home siding replacements take 3-7 days, depending on home size, complexity, and material chosen. Smaller projects (partial replacement, single wall) may be completed in 1-2 days. Fiber cement takes slightly longer than vinyl due to the cutting and installation process. We'll give you a specific timeline in your estimate.
Yes. Hail and wind damage to siding is commonly covered by homeowner's insurance. Hail damage to vinyl siding often appears as cracks or holes, while fiber cement may show dents or chips. Our team documents siding damage thoroughly and works with your adjuster to ensure all damage is included in your claim scope. Many homeowners are unaware that siding damage is covered β it's always worth an inspection.
πͺ Windows & Doors Questions
Absolutely. Minnesota is one of the top states where triple-pane windows pay for themselves most quickly. The additional glass pane and insulating gas fill dramatically reduces heat loss in sub-zero temperatures. Homeowners typically see a 20-30% reduction in heating costs and notice dramatically improved comfort near windows in winter β no more cold drafts or frost forming on the glass. The payback period in Minnesota is typically 7-10 years in energy savings alone.
Insert window replacement (fitting new windows into existing frames) typically takes 1 day for most homes with 10-15 windows. Full-frame replacements (where the entire frame is removed and rebuilt) take longer β usually 2-3 days. We work efficiently and seal each window before moving to the next, so your home is never left exposed. All windows are tested for operation and sealing before we leave.
Yes, storm-damaged windows are typically covered under the dwelling portion of your homeowner's insurance. This includes broken glass from hail or debris impact, cracked frames, and screens. We document window damage as part of our comprehensive storm inspection and include it in the full damage report we provide to your insurance company.
